Day 8 – Pressing and Preparing Your Strip Sets
we talked about how to sew your strips together. Today, we’re going to discuss how to lay them out, press them flat, and prepare them for cutting.
Once all of your strip sets are sewn together, it’s time to iron them. Pressing your seams is an important step because it helps your fabric lay flat and makes your measurements more accurate when it’s time to cut.
Lay each strip set on your ironing board and carefully press the seams. Try not to stretch the fabric while ironing. Take your time and make sure each panel is as flat and smooth as possible.
After your strip sets have been pressed, stack them neatly together. Before stacking them, mark each panel so you can keep them in the correct order. The first panel will be marked 1, the second panel 2, and so on. This will help you stay organized as you move into the cutting stage.
When stacking your panels, make sure that Panel 1 is on the bottom of the stack, followed by Panel 2, Panel 3, Panel 4, and Panel 5 on top. Keeping them in order now will save time and confusion later.
Now we’re ready to start cutting.
Using a 45-degree angle, you will cut your strip sets into sections that are 3 inches wide. Continue cutting until you have 8 sections from each strip set. These angled cuts will create the pieces needed to form the points and design of your star.
Accuracy matters here. Make sure your ruler is lined up correctly and that each cut stays at the same angle. The more precise your cuts are now, the easier it will be when it’s time to assemble your star later.
By the end of today’s work, you should have your strip sets pressed, marked, stacked, and cut into angled sections that will eventually become the diamonds of your Star Quilt.
Next step we’ll begin looking at how those cut sections come together to start forming the shape of the star. We’re getting closer to seeing the design come to life, one step at a time. ๐งต⭐๐๐ผ:
