Ancestors are with us

There are so many negative and positive posts surrounding everything happening around us right now. Sometimes, the negativity becomes so loud that it feels like it has completely overwhelmed the good. But being silent is not always enough.

When someone is pushed to their emotional limit, especially when they feel like they are standing alone in the good they are trying to do, that is often when the darkness shows itself. It spreads, gathers followers, creates chaos, and tries to drown out the one person who is choosing to do what is right.

But remember this: no one who walks in goodness is never truly standing alone.

We carry the strength of those who came before us. Our ancestors endured hardships we may never fully understand, yet they continued to stand, pray, protect, love, and carry our people forward. When we feel lost in the chaos, we can remember that the old people are standing with us. Their strength is behind us, their prayers surround us, and their teachings remind us not to become what we are fighting against.

Picking on the weak and helpless does not make anyone strong. It only reveals the weakness within those who choose to hurt others.

Prayer, however, is powerful when it comes from a heart that truly believes. That is why we stand behind our Sun Dancers and support them in prayer. They are dancing for all of us. Their sacrifice, strength, and prayers remind us that we are connected and that we have a responsibility to stand together.

So when the negativity becomes loud, don’t believe that goodness has disappeared.

When chaos surrounds you, don’t believe that you are alone.

When people try to tear down those who are already hurting, stand up with compassion.

And when you feel like you are the only one trying to do what is right, remember the generations behind you.

The good may sometimes stand quietly, but it stands strong.

Darkness may gather people for a moment, but it cannot overcome the light of people who refuse to give up on one another.

We come from strong people.
We carry strong prayers.
We carry the love of those who came before us.

And together, we can overcome whatever tries to come between us because goodness will always find a way to stand. 🙏🏽❤️

Finding Your Reason for Creating a Star Quilt

Before you cut your first piece of fabric or sew your first stitch, take a moment to think about why you want to create a Star Quilt. Every Star Quilt tells a story, carries meaning, and represents something special to the person making it.

For many of us, Star Quilts are more than blankets. In Native American culture, they are gifts of honor, love, celebration, healing, and remembrance. Starting your first project can feel exciting and overwhelming at the same time. Trust me, I still learn something new with every quilt I make. The important thing is not perfection it’s patience, dedication, and being willing to grow through the process.

Knowing my back ground

My name is Ardith Good Voice Flute, and I am from the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. I am a third-generation Native American Star Quilt maker, carrying on a tradition that began with my grandmother on my mother’s side, then was passed down to my mother, and now to me. Whether this tradition continues beyond me, only time will tell, but every quilt I create carries a piece of my family, culture, and story within it.

Star Quilt making is more than sewing fabric together it is an art rooted in patience, creativity, and tradition. Since I began creating Star Quilts, I have learned to appreciate both the beauty and the challenges that come with each design. Every pattern teaches me something new, from choosing colors and balancing shapes to staying dedicated through the long hours of stitching.

Through this blog, Mastering the Art of Star Quilt Making, I want to share my journey, techniques, lessons, and the meaning behind this important cultural art form.
